A Third Major 2012 Film is Planned

Starring Russell Crowe, no less. Co-starring Monica Bellucci. To be filmed at Chichen Itza. According to tow Mexican newspapers, the film is to be titled ”2012: The Prophecy of the Serpent”, and is written by Alberto Haggar Gonzale, his first screenplay. Gonzale is “an archaeoastronomer who speaks to New Age groups interested in the Maya calendar”.
“Gonzales says the plot of the film revolves around the legacy of the Maya world in 2012 and will be set in Yucatan. The year marks the end of time for the human race, which will be forced to decide whether it should assume the challenge of embracing spirituality or perish” More at American Egypt.

Fragments of fabric with thread counts of over 80 weft yarns per inch have been excavated from the tomb of an ancient Maya queen. The fabric rivals modern textiles in their complexity and quality, scientists say. Some have a higher thread count than today’s jeans. Just as amazing is how well the fabric has survived the humid climate.

2012 Meme Explodes into Golfweek

There’s no sure way to tell when a meme has hit mainstream, but if this is any indication, the 2012 meme might be peaking early. A weekly columnist for Golfweek magazine wrote this week, relating the end of the world to Tiger Woods unable to win the Grand Slam:
We here at the Scramble read an article the other day that asked, Does the ancient Mayan calendar actually predict a 2012 apocalypse?
(Sure, kind of a weird thing to bring up the Monday morning after the Masters, but bear with us…)
According to the article, it seems several authors have warned of a doomsday or “moment of cosmic shifting” on Dec. 21, 2012, which is when the Maya’s “Long Count” calendar marks the end of a 5,126-year era.
