Newly discovered cities of the Ancient Maya suggest that their civilization is much older than previously thought.
And the archaeologists are hopeful of finding evidence of even earlier cities, as they continue their search.
Over the last five years, Bey and his colleagues have started unearthing Maya cities in the Puuc region dating back to more than 800 B.C. “It is both the number of sites we are finding as well as that some of them produced large-scale monumental architecture — pyramids and an acropolis — while others have ball courts.” At Kiuic, Bey’s team has found a large platform that held at least two large ceremonial structures with ceramics. The cities dated back more than a millennium earlier than anyone had thought Maya cities existed in the region.
Meanwhile satellite images are helping uncover Mayan cities in Guatemala.

Thousands of Dutch prepare for 2012

The Dutch-language de Volkskrant -the 3rd biggest national newspaper in the Netherlands, said it has spoken to thousands of believers regarding the impending end of civilization, and while their theories on the supposed catastrophe were varied, most tied the 2012 date to the end of the Mayan calendar. (As reported by Radio Netherlands last Monday).
Could this be the beginning of the public separation of opinion, between doom and ascension?

It used to be nuclear war that teens stressed about, at an age when they should be thinking about more positive things. 2012 is the new nuke. 2012 authors get emails from concerned teens. 2012 forums get new members who have lied that they are over 18. Blog entries describe their fear:

Amanda Peet – lead female in “2012″

Further to last weeks story, Amanda Peet has been announced as the female lead in Roland Emmerich’s epic disaster project “2012″, joining John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt.
“2012″ revolves around a global cataclysm and the heroic struggle of the survivors. Peet is playing Cusack’s ex-wife, newly married to a wealthy man. Cusack plays a divorced father trying to become a writer while holding a job as a limo driver.
It is due to be released in July 2009.
Stars added to 2012 movie

Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt have been added to the $200 million movie known as “2012″, expected to be released next year, on July 10, 2009. They join John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Platt will play the president’s chief of staff.
According to THR, “Glover is in talks to play the President, with Newton in discussions to play his daughter.
The story
…centers on an academic researcher (Cusack) who “opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.”
