No Comet in 2012
December 28, 2008
Ian O’Neill from Universe Today has once more written an article debunking the astronomical possibilities of 2012. This time he looks at the likelihood of a comet colliding with our planet on the Mayan doomsday. This appears to be a reaction to 2012-comet.com, due to their text ads in Google, even though the site itself doesn’t seem to mention comets at all…
Ian begins by suggesting that many 2012 authors are just in it for the money, because “fear sells”. Then he lets us know something that would not surprise many – no known comet is heading for our planet! He then details several objects that are missing Earth, and looks at the blank spot in Google Earth that conspiracy theory folk have jumped on as “evidence” of a cover-up.
I feel he is scraping the barrel here. The site he is referring to is amateurish, and confuses Planet X with a comet. And he is merely telling us a well-known fact – there is no asteroid, meteor or comet heading our way (that NASA et al have told us about).
History Channel – Armageddon Week – Jan 2009
December 27, 2008
Coming real soon (Jan 4-11) is a week of apocalyptic documentaries on the History Channel in the USA. Of interest to us are two programs:
Nostradamus: 2012 – This special looks for the parallels between the nightmarish daily headlines and the 2012 prophecies from Nostradamus and others. From the mystical realms of the Guatemalan jungles to the Hopi elders and Mayan shaman to respected thinkers of the modern age–Nostradamus’ doomsday warning will be cast in a frighteningly modern context.
2012 Solar Peak to be More Severe
December 17, 2008
At a recent press conference, NASA scientists explained that while they previously thought that more solar particles (radiation) entered Earth’s magnetosphere when the sun’s field was oriented southward, in turns out the exact opposite is true.
Essentially our planet’s magnetic shield is at its strongest when scientists had thought it would be at its weakest. And vice-versa. Our shields will be down in 2012 – the next solar maximum – when NASA scientists figured they would be up.
While this will alter calculations regarding the consequences of the next peak, all that has changed is our understanding. The Sun will keep peaking every 11 years, as it appears to have done historically.

Toward 2012: edited by Daniel Pinchbeck
December 15, 2008

Hot on the heels of his well-received 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl comes an anthology of 2012 related articles that have appeared on the Reality Sandwich site, where Pinchbeck is the Editorial Director.
It includes interviews with Abbie Hoffman and artist Alex Grey, as well as articles by Stanislav Grof, John Major Jenkins, and DJ Spooky. Available for pre-order from Amazon, with a release date of Dec 26, 2008. Is this because it is unlikely to be purchased as a Xmas present?
Mayan “Highway to Hell” Discovered
December 11, 2008
Mayan legend, as described in their sacred book named the Popul Vuh—”tells of a tortuous journey through oozing blood, bats, and spiders, that souls had to make in order to reach Xibalba, the underworld”.
In a cave recently found near Mérida, the capital of Yucatán State in Mexico, researchers have discovered a 90-meter paved road that ends at a column standing in front of a body of water. Within the same cave are walled off rooms, an altar and a submerged temple.
Did they build within the cave first, and the legend of Xibalba followed later? Or did the discovery of the cave validate the existing legend? These are questions puzzling researchers. But there is no doubt that these caves, currently full of water, were used for Mayan rituals.
