You are no doubt aware of the potential for a catastrophic space storm (from our Sun), as described recently by NASA. Now Wired asks a pair of experts, author Lawrence Joseph, and John Kappenman, CEO of electromagnetic damage consulting company MetaTech, about what might occur in our immediate future:
Lawrence Joseph: Ultra-high voltage transformers become more finicky as energy demands are greater. Around 50 percent already can’t handle the current they’re designed for. A little extra current coming in at odd times can slip them over the edge.
The ultra-high voltage transformers, the 500,000- and 700,000-kilovolt transformers, are particularly vulnerable. The United States uses more of these than anyone else…
Power grid operators now rely on one satellite called ACE, which sits about a million miles out from Earth in what’s called the gravity well, the balancing point between sun and earth. It was designed to run for five years. It’s 11 years old, is losing steam, and there are no plans to replace it.
ACE provides about 15 to 45 minutes of heads-up to power plant operators if something’s coming in. They can shunt loads, or shut different parts of the grid. But to just shut the grid off and restart it is a $10 billion proposition, and there is lots of resistance to doing so. Many times these storms hit at the north pole, and don’t move south far enough to hit us. It’s a difficult call to make, and false alarms really piss people off. Lots of money is lost and damage incurred. But in Kappenman’s view, and in lots of others, this time burnt could really mean burnt.

On this particular topic I'm growing concerned over the possibllity of some dis-information or damage control. Michio Kaku, the theorietical physicist , publically presented the research showing the predicted increase in solar activity around 2012 and the danger presented due to a weakening magnetic field just this last couple weeks. He claims that the weakening in the field may be due to our solar system entering the galactic plane.
About on week later, the NOAA appears to be countering Dr. Kaku, by saying that a reasearch panel has agreed that the next solar maximum will be weaker.
I seriously doubt the Dr. Kaku and his collegues would have presented the information to the public in the first place if they weren't sure of their data. Dr. Kaku even made the statement that solar physicists had made a 20% margin of error in their calculations and that the next solar maximum was going to be a strong one.
Secondly, when did the NOAA become solar experts. I know that space weather and solar activity affect weather, but I didn't know they researched to sun so thoroughly as to appose solar physicists.
IF the Earth's magnetic field is weakening and IF the sun spits out some flares in our direction, the danger i'm concerned about is the cosmic hIgh energy particles, a good partion of which come form the galaxy and galactic core. If the galactic plane is having these affects on our magnetic field, the Earth has no protection against these dangerous particles either.
the noaa has probably been told to say that by the govt. why else would they say that? Look, we paid for the underground bunkers the govt and millions of their fav's will be staying in to protect themselves.. WITH OUR TAX MONEY. they don't want you to know about anything. they're afraid we'd wise up and try to fight for them as a nation as WE DID pay for them, with our money. the whole things messed up, and only the rich and powerful will have the best chance at survival. pretty simple read between the lines. .

im a soldier in the us army. and i can tell you all that the govnt hasnt informed myself nor anyone i know on the issue at had. but if the world is going to end there is nothing to this point you nor anyone you know can do about it. furthermore. cant you get the clue that while hollywood is producing videos on the matter and trying to formally inform you and i on theses issues, your govnt is invading numberous countries trying to take control over "peace and freedom"

the puppet show is a good one, and none of us can prepare at all. The governments of the world are on a big power-grab, to hold or gain more control of this world. The people of this world are unifying through mass-communication and that is a problem for governments as individual identities. If 2012 doesn't get us then "one world order" will and frankly, like any important and necessary change, I think we need it.

Mother nature is changing it's cycle due to co2 be pumped into the atmosphere. It's a nautral change as humans are only responsible for around 10% of co2. It will change but not end. The planet has been here for billions of years and will still be here when we are long gone.
