2012 doomsday movie Directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring John Cusack and Amanda Peet, 2012 takes the “natural disasters foretold by ancient calendar” angle. Sun storms are affecting Earth, culminating in tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanoes. The story itself appears to be standard for disaster movies - short on science, long on stories of numerous individuals, and high on amazing special effects, with a small dose of conspiracy. It’s highly likely a pet dog survives…

Can we have some move evidence to prove this other then a calendar from a civialization that ended thousands of years ago?

Well, as I can see the picture, it is for sure something will happen, like a major catastrophe. This world as it is is more wild than Sodom and Gemorrah. Put the puzzle together and what do you see. Tatoos, sex running rampant, drugs, ghoulish makeup. All is accepted. Sex taught in the schools at six years old Same gender marriages. Animals abused, guns used to shut people and babies up. If you cannot stand the noise, how about this BAM. That is the way the world is, a continual Bam. Nobody has money, they spent it on the wild life. If the world ends, we casked for it. Too bad the standards of yesterday are forgotten. Let the good times roll. That is the credo.

Yes, it just looks like some craptastic blockbuster trying to turn a profit off of the hype, 2012 is not the end people. its the beginning of the next step of human evolution and understanding, the end of the mayan calender is really just the end of one cycle which will be followed by another i assure you.
But the only way we will be able to advance is if we break free of the shackles of the old and fix the problems facing humanity. Abolish Money.
The hippies had it right, Free love. but how do you apply free love? you must understand that everything is you, and you are everything, you must look past every artificial means of separation we have concocted and give all you have, and in turn everything will be given back to you. But this cannot happen when people are forced to compete for monetary gain in order to sustain ones own life, we need a resource based society, we need a sustainable society, we need a free society. That’s the only way humans will be able to survive the catastrophes that we’ve already produced on this planet.

Well, I dont see anything wrong with same sex marraiges, or tattoos, or safer sex being taught, or makeup or any of that. Who is anyone to judge?

The problem is that people can’t accept eachother for who they are, people arent giving others the space and room they deserve to be themselves so then people become unhappy and oppression happens, hate crimes, people pushing thier beliefs onto others. I believe that gay people have every right to marry, but its not my place to tell anyone else they HAVE to believe that.

no one knows the day or time of when armageddon will happen…. only god knows that, it will come when we least expect it. When we are busy with our everyday lives and take no notice of the warning signs around us that is when it will come. Armegeddon is the end of wicked people of this earth, not of everything living thing on this earth. It will be selective. Our earth will stay, but the evil people of this earth will be gone…..

The Mayan calendar ends December 12th, 2012 because that’s the day that our universe basically finishes a cycle, like in cloclwork, similiar to how a clock has 60 seconds and it moves forward, but also everyone of those 60 tics moves the hour hand, and eventually it moves to another hour. In this case, our “hour” is changing, we are changing are universal “calendar”, in a different manner of speaking. To put this easier, they were creating a calendar for that “month”, except it was not a month, but the longevity of their civilazation. I’m not exactly sure myself what or what from it was changing, but I hear it has something to do with our stars, and night sky. And, perhaps this “tick” will send us spiraling downward, and our poles will shift ; but, until anyone can ACTUALLY proove it, I will continue to be one of the few who remain silent, listening to the public.

Actually I read the script to 2012 part two.

In basic there will be a metor that will crash into the earth carring the Y2K bug giving terriorist control of wall steet. This causes all Republicians to then vote for Obama. Then Orson Wells will get on the radio and inform people that spacemen carring ‘mad cow’ and ‘west nile’ will cause the planet to explode because the Mayan Calender Publishers didnt print the next 5000 year calander.

In short… stop living in fear. Each day you live has enough problems of it’s own.

Interesting. The Chicxulub Crater is an ancient impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula. The old story/prophecy makes sense as evidence that the Mayans had knowledge of disaster events and took it to heart.

Ok, as with any prediction, these predictions were made while these people were hallucinating on psychoactive drugs. Nostradamus, the mayans, the indians, etc…. They performed vision rituals using poisonous plants/and or psychoactive drugs that cause hallucination. What prediction has come true so far? Also the Mayans are an extinct race, they are not a credible source.

So Richard… what you’re saying about “the Mayans are an extinct race, they are not a credible source”… that’s like saying the fossil record isn’t credible because dinosaurs are extinct, or that Tesla or Einstein aren’t credible because they are not extinct. This was a race of people that were inhabitants of their respective regions for a very long time and who somehow created a calendar that is STILL more accurate than our best scientific formulas, so even if you don’t think they are credible, that just reflects your own lack of credibility by not having a clue what you are talking about before you sit down to type a response on here. Just because the calendar ends does not mean it’s the end of the planet and everything on it, and if you actually studied the Mayan culture at all, you’d understand that.

Here is something for you all to think about… if a calendar ends at a specific time and date, is it because it’s the end of the world or is it because the way we keep track of time will change? What if our years become 364 days? ALL calendars would be useless and new ones created. Maybe the Mayans know some astrological event that will take place, who knows… but you have to consider all of the options. The Mayan people were very credible and understood advanced astrology and architecture, and someone had to teach them, so ask yourself who and consider that in the prophecies of these people.

2012 is coming no matter what, but it’s impressive how many cultures, not just the Mayans, have some prophecy or story related to 2012… do your homework before you post absurd comments about things you don’t know.

I read a book about this called “Apocalypse 2012″ which was pretty interesting.
And according to that book…the Mayan’s aren’t “extinct,” and they didn’t use drugs in their predictions. Anyway, I feel like it was informative and explains alot of possibilities, and I trust it came from a reliable source, not just some bum typing junk on a website somewhere. I don’t really have an extreme opinion on this, just trying to be helpful.

The Cover is from a different Movie.
The new one is called “2012″, the old one (a really bad christian-movie) was called Doomsday 2012.

So it doesn’t really matter, which calender is on the image, because it’s the wrong movie’s.

Now I don’t think I will be around in 7 billion years. But if you believe in evolution, we started to evolve only 4 billion years ago, so we are 1/3 of the way there.

Now for life on earth, that’s a different question.

There are many cultures that predict something significant will happen in 2012. The early Chinese, the Mayans, (they are still alive, just their empire passed away), the bible code, etc. Do some research. I do it to expand my knowledge.

Scientist say we are due for a major asteroid similar to the one that killed the dinosaurs. One large enough to kill life forms on earth will pass by in 2016. It will be so close that it will pass underneath the orbiting satellites. It will then be attracted by the sun and head back towards earth. Astronomers can predict its new trajectory.

Or, Next Spring, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) becomes fully operational. Many scientist predict that it will be able to create a black hole. Will it?

the rant made about drugs sex and violence and makeup is really not too relevant. If you look at if one way, human civilization has came a long way. We used to think war was honorable and it was ok to own slaves and of course we have seen women win back their rights. If 2012 means anything I would like to think of it as something deeply spiritual, maybe even a new mark of our evolution, not because this world is sick and it needs to happen or its good if it does. DIsaster brings new life, just like a volcano renews the land, I think if you don’t believe the story that we could still find points of agreement and maybe even see that the human race has come a long way, we have learned from our mistakes, but in no way is disaster an act of god to brutally destroy us all.

I’ve seen this film but the funnier version of it, it was called ‘Evan Almighty.’ Yet another Disaster Movie with, maybe, some updated special effects and just a few actors who can actually act, unlike previous disaster movies, ID4, The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, Deep Impact, etc the National Media, Goverment Speculators, and the rest of the National Audience were discussing the likelihood of the End-of-The-World back in late 1999, the 1999-2000 Digital Disaster. And hear we are, almost 9 years later discusing 2012.
WE WILL MOVE ON from 2012 and see things throughout the world like we’ve have seen and not have seen like never before. With technological advancements and improvements in society and our social world around us, we will only be forced to mature from our current stupidity in humanity’s selfish actions towards societys and mankind as a whole. Two psychics in the early Nineties said the Earth is going to be hit by a small asteroid in April of 2012. They didn’t know each other and came up with two dateswithin a month of each other. The one in California said it would hit on April 12 and the other in the MidWest said April 22. Both said it would going to hit about 200 miles off the southern coast of California.
Both drew maps of their visions and again both were very similar. Giant Tsunamis were going to devastate all the coasts in the Pacific killing two billion people. The impact is going to shock all the fault lines around the world.
The Viejo volcano on the island Las Palmas in the Azores is going to sheer off. The resulting mega tsunamis are going to inundate the East Coast of America from Florida to Southern Maine killing 120 million Americans and wiping out every coastal community and inland communities as far away away as 200 miles from the coast. All of the Caribbean islands and the Yucatan peninsula will be scoured of life.
The mega tsunamis and the shock to the Pacific plate will cause a subduction that will allow the tremendous waves to breach the coastal mountains and will fill the Great Basin creating a great inland sea. The great central valley of California will also fill up. Most of the Pacific coast will be under water killing people from Cabo San Lucas to Vancouver. The death toll will be around 50 million.
Sea levels will rise because of the sinking of the American West Coast, and theMediterranean Sea will more than double in size. Venice and Dubrovnic will be inudated as well as large areas of France Spain and Italy. The Netherlands will be completely drowned and Denmark nearly so. All the coasts of Africa will be under water by December of 2012 as will many other areas not originally hit by the raging tsunamis that will keep occuring every time a volcanic mountain in the sea splits or collapses due to the shock damage of the original strike.
All told some 4 billion people worldwide will die from drowning, starvation and raging epidemics. According to these two visons as well as a Lakota psychic, all say the world will never be the same again. Keeping with the new phase as foretold by the Mayans, humanity will get a fresh start and we will all be the better off for it in time. By the way the new Pacific Coast is supposed to be about 60 miles west of Phoenix. I don’t if any of this will come to pass, but this is what many more psychics are saying. We will only locate the small killer asteroid a few weeks before it hits giving us no time to try and deflect it. My suggestion is to keep away from the coasts and get to really high ground early in April 2012. Colorado might be best. If it happens I wish you all a good luck.

Eventually mankind’s reign will end. Make no mistake about it. As for the comments that some have pointed to where tatoos and same sex marriages are responsible for the downfall of humanity is nothing but crap. Overpopulation is our #1 threat. Global warming is or may be a by product of it, I don’t know.
And if all these billions of deaths are to happen as some have predicted, well it takes care of the population problem doesn’t it.

The year 2012 will get here and there is nothing anybody can do about that. My advice is to get a lawn chair, crack open a cold one and sit back and watch what does or what doesn’t happen.

Well buddy I dont think you can name even 2 times that people predicted these events to happen besides 2012. You see, the whole “Millenium” scare was brought up by modern day people. Remember, the prophecy for the specific date December 21, 2012 has been mentioned numerous times throughout history in different parts of the world. Not just the Mayans. As time went on the idea of a disaterous event happening in the beginning this millenium lead uneducated people to think it would all happen right when the millenium began. How foolish. Yes a disasterous event will occur this in the beginning of this millenium. 2012 “is” in the beginning of this millenium. And during the last 8 years prophecies have had there best time in the spot light. More prophecies have come true and are coming true, than ever in history. Even the book of revelations in the bible is coming true so you guys need to wake up and see that all of this IS happening. Do your research instead of making opinions with nothing to back them up.

There are a series of events that will take place before the end of the world as we know it. It’s all in the Bible, Revelations is probebly the most graphic. No where does it indicate any specific date but it does say that it will occur when times are like those in Noah’s days. It is not referring to globel warming either, but how we have basically turned our backs on anything moral and said “I can do it, I don’t need your help”. We have made a mess of His creation yes, but He will never let us completly destroy it like most people fear. I put my faith in Him who created everything we know, not a civilazation that does not exist anymore. Ah there is the rub, why isn’t it still here? As for the movie it will be great special effects and lots of fiction with a mix of bad acting. You know, the usual stuff hollywood puts out. Will I go see it? Depends on the trailors, I do love special effects.

First of all, lets put all the known facts together. The end of the Mayan calendar long count ends on December 21, 2012. Coincidentally, the Sun is also aligning to the galactic center, which happens every 26,000 years. In addition the planet Nibiru , will be passing by earth in December, 2012 , causing the earth to literally tilt on its axis. There will be earthquakes, tidal waves and volcanic eruptions like the world hasn’t seen since the time of the dinosaurs. It is not the end of the planet but it will be the end of life as we know it. Approximately 4 to 4.5 billion people will die but mankind will survive, though we will be back in the stone age. We will rebuild our societies but the face of the planet will be much different. Thats a great story. The only problem with it is that the science of what you say is totally wrong. This is not a big ball dropping into the water (if it were too happen) its a chunk of iron the size of a mountain, or larger, hitting the earth at ten thousand mph. The friction would create so much heat that most of the water would evaporate and anything with 1000s of miles in all directions would incinerate. Then the impact would send debris the size of city blocks in the form of molten lava into the atmosphere, only too crash down around the world bringing more fire and impacts. The oxygen would be sucked out of the air and the shockwave will circle the globe a couple times leveling most everything. So, again, nice story, but void of the facts of what really happens when a Chicxulub or larger rock has an impact.

I have read several books on the subject of 2012 as well as ancient civilizations etc. For those of you who are certain nothing will happen, all I can say is that your ignorance is showing. Do your research, Jesus ( which means the sun of Zeus ) was nothing more than a copy of many other messiahs some of whom predated Jesus by thousands of years. Nobody has a crystal ball, but there are a number of theories. The Mayans were a very advanced civilization. They did calender many cosmic cycles one of which will end in 2012. All I can say is, it will be interesting to see what happens. I don't claim know what will happen but i can say this, we are long overdue for a major change. I've read lots of books about 2012 and I really think there's something to it. This movie is just a formula disaster movie - not big deal. A friend recommended a book which I'm about halfway through and I love it! PW2 2012: The End of the Beginning - it's a novel, great story about why 2012 is going to be a big deal. It's all about this probability wave that is causing strange things to happen - so probability is all messed up. Great imagination here, and really good writing, so it's easy to read. I would first like to say that the biggest problem with every post on this site is that you all are basing your opinions on prophecy. This is flawed because most people do not understand that the end of the Mayan calendar was not based on prophecy like the bible, nostradomus, the oracle, etc. The Mayans were the most advanced civilization with regard to mathematics and astronomy of their time. They understood thousands of years ago what we just recently realized thanks to modern technology.

Scientifically, there will be a galactic alignment in 12/21/12. This happens every 26,800 years. Since Human History does not reach back that far, NOBODy really knows the consequences (if any) of such a galactic alignment.

Obviously, even the most ignorant of people realize that without our sun life cannot exist. The death of our sun will definitely be the end, and this is IF the earth survives the merger of Andromeda and the Milky Way that is currently in progress as we speak. The survival of the earth and our sun is 50/50 at best, as this merger will cause widspread collision of objects in Andromeda and our Milky Way. We know of many other forces that can destroy our planet, or any other star in our universe. There can be collisions ranging from N.E.O. such as comets and asteroids to exoplanetary collisions. We know for fact that black holes destroy everything that gets too close to them, and we also know for fact that a black hole approximately 40 million times more massive than our sun exists in the center of the Milky Way.

First off…the Mayan calendar does NOT predict the end of the world, it predicts the end of the 5th Sun (a period of 26,000 years). That means there was a 1st through 4th Sun and I'm sure there will be a 6th sun after this. At the end of these periods something BIG usually happens. There is a very good article on the math behind this at http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/5thsun.htm. I find it interesting that the number 13 figured prominently into this math. Is it a mere coincidence that there were 12 apostles and 1 Jesus? Funny but our calendar is also based on 13 …there are four periods of 13 weeks which add up to 52…same number of weeks in our year. The first sun started with Atlantis… perhaps we've been around a lot longer than we think and will be around after this too. I still WANT to SO see this movie!

Lotta interesting stuff. But "calendar is also based on 13" just does not compute in my brain. Theres an extra day. Do we know for sure the Mayans had a base 10 number system. I remember a statement in an Isaac Asimov book whereour number system would be much more efficient based on 8,instead of 10. So when I started typing this I decided to research,it's called the octal system. So I searched number system of aincent peoples, including the Mayans. While 13 was mentioned a few times what I came across seems to indicate the Mayan calendar is actally based on 20.

there are have been a lot of prediction like they said to world would end in 01/01/2000,06/06/06 and many others. Most people didn't know about those dates that I gave them above,but in 2012 something is different every religion and country is aware of it,why not on those other prediction dates people weren't aware? so that means something is going to happen nobody really knows,its probably only the scientist. and the Mayan predictited about Hernan Cortes too,they predictited like thousands years ago they didn't really had communications.
